Stop Spider Veins and Tired and Aching Legs Before they happen

When you don’t take care of your legs they won’t take care of you.  Every time you feel that ache of pain it is your legs telling you they are not in shape.  They start with pains and could end up with more permanent visual symptoms such as spider veins.  When you don’t exercise and take good care of your legs you end up causing them to swell or feel fatigued.  This is usually a result of the flow of blood not being able to flow back up towards ones heart due to damage.  This damage is a result of an increase in pressure that can cause the veins to stretch the vein walls.  When the vein wall stretches it can become over-stretched and with this the valves cannot close properly which will cause the blood to leak back down into the lower legs.  This in turn will be the result of poor circulation.  To reduce your risk from this happening is exercise and wearing compression stockings or socks before it is too late.  Both Jobst and Medi Compression Stockings come in a various amounts of colors and sizes.  You will need to measure to fit yourself in order to select your proper size to make sure they are effective.  When the stockings are properly sized this will make sure they are doing the correct job for your legs.  When wearing Compression Stockings you also need to maintain them by replacing them every 6 months, as after that the compression is no longer going to be effective.  Wearing stockings that are effective in their compression is very important and without that you will not get any results.  It is always important to consult your physician about compression stockings, as they will be able to evaluate your condition best and recommend the proper compression (mmHg).

Who Needs to Wear Compression Stockings or Socks

Do you need Compression Socks or Stockings?   If you work and your job is one that has you either sitting or standing in one place for long periods of time then yes you should look into getting compression therapy for your legs.  The reason is that sitting or standing for long periods of time does not allow your veins to have the muscle activity that is required to push the blood up and back to your heart.  This is why when being put in the same position for a long period of time your body feels weak and oxygen depleted, as the lack of muscle activity will not allow for your blood to flow properly. If you have a job that will allow you while sitting to elevate your legs for long periods of time this will help but is not the answer to the problem.  The other option is going out on your breaks and taking walks or doing some form of exercise.  Your best option to make sure you are taking the proper precautions to make sure you are keeping your legs healthy is wearing compression stockings such as Medi or Jobst, which are great for both men and women.  They have been around for a long time and have sizes to meet every individuals needs.

New App for Oxygen Users

With the use of oxygen there comes the responsibility of carrying a portable oxygen cylinder, unless you are using an iGo portable oxygen system.  If you are using tanks to get around town or to and from Doctors appointments you either have a regulator or a conserving device attached to get the oxygen flowing.  The regulator allows for the flow to be continuous and does not do anything to help the tank last longer.  The conserver usually has some kind of ratio 5:1 or 3:1 or even breath sensor to allow it to last much longer.  These are both great delivery systems but the question time and time again is “How long will my tank last?” The answer is finally here.  The company Responsive Respiratory has launched an app that is available for both the Android and iPhone that will allow you to put in specs of what you are using and tank size so that you can get a proper estimate of how long your tank should last you.  This will help reduce the guessing game.  As always it will depend on what brand, make, and model of each regulator or conserver you are using but it is a handy tool.  The app named O2 To Go also found under Cylinder Duration Calculator is a must for all oxygen users not on a portable oxygen system.

There are always people that don’t understand the importance of testing their blood sugar daily or as directed by a physician.  A physician will direct patients differently on how they should be testing but the key is to follow the proper steps. For example, it is important that you first clean the site where you will be pricking and allow the blood sample to flow so that it can be tested accurately. Glucometers come in different shapes and sizes. It is important you find the one you are most comfortable with because it will become your best friend. Your physician is not asking you to test in the morning when you wake up and before a meal just to put you in pain.  This is so that they can identify how your insulin in your body is reacting to the food ingested.  This will tell them a story about what they need to do in order to make adjustments to medications or habits in your diet.  It is important you follow these instructions so that you can live with diabetes and still enjoy a healthy life.

New Oxygen Users and The New Life
